I noticed that some information I posted on my Web site about The Feder Sisters, respectively my mother and my aunt, has been lifted and placed on the idelsounds Web site without my permission. It would be much appreciated if you would remove the text which I authored and which was taken and reproduced on the idelsounds Web site without my permission for my own personal purposes from my copyrighted Web site. While I attempted to contact the owner of this site privately, there was no method of my contacting the owner without joining this site. Please apprise me when the text in question has been removed. In the future, please ask me if you would like to reproduce anything which I've authored. ~ Madeline, daughter of Sylvia Feder

I'm reccomending a version of "My Yiddishe Mama" by the Old Black Magic singer from the early 50's. On my all time top 100 list. Beautiful harmonies with his pianist Benny Paine. I saw them at the Copa over 50 years ago. Pure schmaltz, I just love it.

I just did a blog post for the Jewish Weekly News of Northern California on the forgotten Jewish Musical COMedy Legend, Benny Bell. He languished in obscurity, until his double-entendre hit Shaving Cream was discovered by Doctor Demento, and reached the billboard charts.
You can read my post about Benny Bell, and listen to some of his most famous recordings here: http://www.jweekly.com/blog/full/38405/benny-bell-comic-legend
There are full archives of his recordings as part of the FAU Judaica Archive, a great resource for forgotten Jewish Music: http://faujsa.fau.edu/jsa/artist_album.php?artist=bell
I'd love to see some of his albums get added to this exhibit.
Thank you for this great exhibit and resource. I'm going to have to stop by again.

Thank you for this great exhibit and resource. I'm going to have to stop by again." Is this heaven or what? I have been thinking about that record for years. There were several other 78's in that style by other artists, some in blues form. In the early and mid 1940's on rainy days back in B'klyn, when we couldn't go to the schoolyard to play ball, we would listen and did we love all that risque material. Mild compared to today, but brilliant lyrics to the ears of a 12 year old. The collection belonged to the parents of a friend, Paul Kram. Unfortunately, I have lost touch with Paul. Will check out your links. Thank you for the posting. Herb Bard

I would like to stay in touch as to when any cd's or the "boxed set" of sacred music compiled from his and his grandfather's work, the rabbi Naftali Zvi Margolies Abulafia, might become available to be heard.
With great thanks, Ron MacDonald

I first saw Mr. Bikel in the fun movie "The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming" as a kid in the '60's. Later my parents had a recording on vinyl of him singing songs from "Fiddler On The Roof" and playing Israeli fold songs and the whole family enjoyed this record. To me he is to 20th century Jewish music what Hank Greenberg was to baseball, a big strong presence that makes everyone proud.

That was more than 20 years ago. The song was called "Papirossn". It is still among my favorite ones. I live in Moscow, Russia. Here the Barry Sisters had their unique performance in 1959 along with many other American artists orchestrated by Ed Sullivan.

The first time I heard Ron Eliran I was at a friend's wedding on Long Island, sitting in front of a plate of roast chicken when some guy sporting a Jewfro came speeding through the maze of tables holding a guitar like a rifle and strumming it viciously while hoarsely singing some Hebrew tune. "Who the hell is this guy?" I asked. "Eh," my newly married friend said, "it's Ron Eliran. My parents love him. He was big in the sixties." He made the roast chicken fun.

Les Baxter's "The Passions" is perhaps Bas Sheva's most acclaimed work--and for good reason. "The Passions" contemplates the depth of human emotions through her singing, whimpering, wailing, and screaming... However, it is not the most accessible form of music in general.
What do you think about "The Passions"? Genius in a record? Way too bizarre? Share your musical impressions of Bas Sheva's epic work..
